What broadheads do you use and why?

I use the Magnus Stinger 4 blade 150 grain. Why ? Because it is a no nonsense bone busting, artery cutting head that is easy to maintain the edge and is true on it's axis. No gimmicks. I grew up learning hunting in the 1980's era, and back then we used Bear Razorheads, the big green ones from K Mart. I killed a few with them. They weren't as true spinning as today's Magnus.

Alot of folks like to just follow the trend and use what is popular without knowing why. Good to see you asking. I'm a research, prove to me type of person. During the eighties and early 1990 era, summertime 3d shooting was popular. Kids were outfitting their High Country bows with overdraws and shooting short arrows in an effort to flatten trajectory. Their bows were grossly out of tune, with no where for all that stored energy to go because they had too lite of an arrow. October rolled around and caught them by surprise, and they wanted to go hunting. They screwed in one of the popular heads of that era, such as the Thunderhead, and found out that it wouldn't fly right. The Mechanical head quickly became popular as a band aid instant fix. Much like today, the kids wanted a fix now without alot of hum bug effort. Rather than throw the overdraw in the garbage can, along with the improper arrows, and get the right arrows, they wanted the quik fix. And surprisngly it stuk around. Much like putting chicory in coffee, which was done in the South during the depresion to make coffee go further. The depression is over, but the old folks around here still drink that chicory. So the new kids that were born, say, late 1980 or during the era of 1990, don't know all this about the mech head, and they see the mech head as " the popular " head. It's cool to use it. Think about all the Sims Vibration stuff that came out to silence vibration. They are sticking that stuff all over the limbs, quivers, built in the risers of Matthews, etc.. How about getting away from that 5 grain per pound of draw arrow weight. Put it back AMO. Fast Fast Fast. A Marketing ploy. Crossbows- first question from somebody is how fast does it shoot. A true seasoned woodsman & hunter would never ask you that as a primary question. He knows how irrelavant that is. For me, I will stick to the big 150 grain Magnus head. It cost me 9 fps on the chrono, but so what. It performs well at the game animal.

GREAT ARTICLE. THE OLD BEAR HEAD HAS PROBABLY TAKEN MORE GAME THAN ANY OTHER BROADHEAD AND THE MAGNUS STINGER IS A GOOD TAKE OFF THE GREAT BEAR HEAD. ALL THE MAGNUS STINGERS SHOOT GREAT AND THEY HAVE A LIFETIME WARRANTY. YOU CAN ALSO REPLACE THE MAIN BLADE AND THE BLEEDERS.

I use a 125 grain Hellrazor. I am a firm believer in cut on contact heads. even with the added enrgy and the fact i put a 25 yard limit on my xbows as well as compounds i am not a fan of mechanicals, do they work/ sure they do but i trophy hog hunt and only shoot the biggest dominat boar in the area that i find. also most fixed blade heads are tougher more durable and easy to resharpen. give me any magnus or hellrazor i can sharpen them on the stone or an accusharpener pick it up screw it on another arrow and put it through another animal. I myself dont care about velocity or energy the most important thing is being able to hit the vitals!!!

I have 6 brand new mechs Steel heads and sidewinders. I prefer Fixed and my FAV two happen to be Stingers and thunderheads. I Shot my bows today vert and horzontal. Thunderheads and stingers shoot amazing out of my AXE 6. The Horton appeared to like them as well. Probably going to try and trade those mechs of for more stingers. GOING to play a lttle more and see just how well my thunderheads will fly.

Another good head making alot of waves today is the Slick Trick.

It looks like a really good head, and easy to sharpen.
Tricks are Cool but I dont like the short little blades. I prefer a longer blade that get to cut of a longer stroke. I shotem in my compound bow last yr and wasnt overly impressed looking back. I was impressed with how they flew and the overal design is freaking solid just not my type of heads. If they shoot good though I will usem with my horton.

hey hey howie----just got some 125 gr. hellraisers for my koda express and they shoot very good with 2219 shafts and a 4 inch vane. I like to try different broadheads, all kinds.the hellraisers are really put together and like the fact that they can be sharpened by hand with a good combo stone. going to do the final testing on these hellraisers today at 30 yards and will post the results

Well shot the thunderheads against the Stingers both at 125 grains. They hit the exact same. I only intend to use my XBOW out to 30yards on deer and since I stink at seeing blood I have decided to use the Thunderheads since they make stuff bleed better. Using them with my vertical this yr as well. Grew up using them killed a pile of deer with them and out of all the heads I have used these have been by far my FAV killers.

For hunting: TP Titan HLX I use TP Pro Elite arrows with NAP F.O.C 170 gr mechanical broadhead, Barnett Jackal I use Carbon Express arrows with NAP 125gr Thunderhead 3 blade fixed broadheads and my Horton Yukon I use Carbon Express arrows with NAP 125 gr Spitfire mechanical broadheads. When I am confident enough to hunt with my Mathews Outback it will be Easton Axis arrows with 125 gr NAP Thunderhead fixed broadheads. :)

100 grain G5 T3 expandables
Been using them for two years - no o rings/rubberbands, flies like a field point, big wound channels with the 3 blade deployment.
"do you want a sliver or a T3 chunk?" :)

Rage two blade xbow and regular heads because they fly just like my field points out of three different bows have a tough practice head and leave big holes and blood trails.I got some swhackers for my lower speed bow incase I need better penatration but they dont fly the same as my field points and dont have a practice head. You have to use tape to keep them closed when sighting in which becomes a pain.I got a complete pass through out of my 260fps bow last year using the rage.I think the swhackers are good heads but I wish they would fly like my feild points.
